A Tale of Two Salaries

Report: Stanton agrees to $325M deal, so reads the front page of the Miami Herald.

Report: Salary of new UF head will top $1M.

Giancarlo Stanton's contract would be the richest contract in baseball history.

W. Kent Fuch, would be the highest paid university president in Florida and his salary would be comparable to presidents at Penn State, Ohio State, Harvard, and Northwestern.

According to USA Today the salaries of every Big Ten Football Coach is significantly higher than the salary of the President of the University of Florida.  In fact former UF Coach Urban Meyer is paid about $4.5M for coaching the Buckeyes.

Stanton's salary will be larger than contract Alex Rodriguez inked a few years back, and more than contracts given to Albert Pujols and Robinson Cano.

The entire major league payroll for 2014 Marlins was estimated at $45M.  It is estimated that the team is worth about 500M by Forbes Magazine.  The cost of constructing Miami Marlin's Park north of 525M.

I will remember these numbers when I attend games and pay my cable bills into the future.  I wonder if those free Thursday Home Games will be a thing of the past in the coming year.

I wish Mr. Stanton and Fuchs good luck.  A lot is riding on their performance regardless of their salaries.

Internet Dust Ups

 A high school classmate shared on FB, something from a 64 year old commercial pilot who had passed a exam to fly on of the latest jets in their fleet of aircraft.  I was also aware of an FAA rule about retirement at age 65 for commercial pilots.    In the U.S.,  there are no  FAA  age limits for pilots except for commercial airline pilots employed by airlines certificated under 14 CFR Part 121 . These airlines cannot employ pilots after they reach the age of 65. However, these pilots may stay on with a Part 121 carrier in some other role, such as flight engineers. What Is Official These Days?

 I would guess most people would understand what Official means.  Just because a person holds a public office doesn't mean everything he might do is official and everything he might not do is official as well. “The modern conservative is engaged in one of man’s oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness". from J.
