FIU and The Beast Now Located in Doral

Last weekend The Miami Herald wrote that it would not be covering FIU's home opener football game against Bethune Cookman College.  FIU didn't like the beat reporter from the paper and refused to give him a press pass.  The newspaper could have sent another reporter but thought Dave Neal had reported both the ups and downs of the program fairly enough to leave the coverage of the game to little more than the final score.  FIU lost 14-12.

FIU has a lot of students.  Maybe not a lot of subscribers, but FIU needs to be covered by the major metropolitan newspaper in the area.  These kind of squabbles should not be news.  This is football and I don't think there are any national security issues involved.

Covering stories, hand holding of advertisers, free tickets to events happen, but getting the facts right are the most important things a reporter can do.  Unfortunately, as sports becomes more entertainment, more money, and more opinion I guess this kind of stuff becomes inevitable.

FIU would be well advised to shut their pie hole and put a better product on the field, oh and by the way that goes for the UM football program as well.  The last two games against Louisville have not been good or even moral victories.

Mr. Neal got his press credentials from FIU this morning.  Two problems solved, now just go win baby.

Internet Dust Ups

 A high school classmate shared on FB, something from a 64 year old commercial pilot who had passed a exam to fly on of the latest jets in their fleet of aircraft.  I was also aware of an FAA rule about retirement at age 65 for commercial pilots.    In the U.S.,  there are no  FAA  age limits for pilots except for commercial airline pilots employed by airlines certificated under 14 CFR Part 121 . These airlines cannot employ pilots after they reach the age of 65. However, these pilots may stay on with a Part 121 carrier in some other role, such as flight engineers. What Is Official These Days?

 I would guess most people would understand what Official means.  Just because a person holds a public office doesn't mean everything he might do is official and everything he might not do is official as well. “The modern conservative is engaged in one of man’s oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness". from J.
