Duke Goes Down and Coach K Didn't Look Happy

Cameron Indoor Stadium on the campus of Duke University in Durham North Carolina was strangely quiet last night.  Many of the student body were almost weepy as they watched the Blue Devils go down to defeat against the University of Miami 90-74.

For Miami it was a signature win,

For Duke it was the end of  the longest current home winning streak of 41 games.  The Canes shot 67% from the floor in the 2nd half to club the 4th ranked Blue Devils into submission.  It was also Duke's second loss in a row.  The last time the faithful saw Duke lose at home was March 12, 2012.

I got bored with the Frontline expose on Putin and was prepared to listen to the end of the basketball game on the radio.  The Hurricanes had a small lead with about thirteen minutes to go in the 2nd half. The radio guy sounded vaguely optimistic, but then reminded the listeners that UM had blown big leads against Duke before. The "Cameron Crazies" tried to rally their team but the Dukies missed crucial shots and made turnovers that sealed their fate.

I got out of bed to watch the last ten minutes on ESPN.  I celebrated with a glass of homemade jug wine.

Internet Dust Ups

 A high school classmate shared on FB, something from a 64 year old commercial pilot who had passed a exam to fly on of the latest jets in their fleet of aircraft.  I was also aware of an FAA rule about retirement at age 65 for commercial pilots.    In the U.S.,  there are no  FAA  age limits for pilots except for commercial airline pilots employed by airlines certificated under 14 CFR Part 121 . These airlines cannot employ pilots after they reach the age of 65. However, these pilots may stay on with a Part 121 carrier in some other role, such as flight engineers. What Is Official These Days?

 I would guess most people would understand what Official means.  Just because a person holds a public office doesn't mean everything he might do is official and everything he might not do is official as well. “The modern conservative is engaged in one of man’s oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness". from J. Kenneth Galbraith interview. And oh, by the way, moral justification at times isn't much more than a fig leaf, you can bet someone got screwed or got the proverbial get out of jail free card.
