There are Schools and then there are Schools
There have been more than a few stories about the evils of proprietary schools. In these days when it seems to be more and more important to have credentials, I think it is very important to review the credentials of the school one attends before they pay a lot of money to attend classes.
Many of these schools spend a great deal of money recruiting students but don't spend as much money on placing these students in jobs after they complete classes if they indeed complete their classes.
Maybe these schools schould be more selective in the actual enrollment of these students. Many would be considered high risk students with poor records of achievement and little chance of successfully completing a technically demanding class.
I would have two suggestions that would help the situation.
Strangely to some I would encourage those that are in a tough situation where they have lost a job that is unlikely to come back to go back to school and improve your skills in an area where there is a good chance of landing a job upon completion. This may not be possible for everyone immediately and for those that don't have a GED or lack a good understanding of English, I would require a combination of job search and remedial education and esol if you are receiving unemployment benefits.
