Friday evening, June 29, 2018 will be the last time you will see the dog racing at Flagler in Miami. I've lived in Miami for almost fifty years and have been going to the dog races for almost fifty years first with my father and then by myself. Gambling on dog racing in those fifty years hasn't changed that much, however the number of folks following has plummeted. While there were several dog tracks in South Florida in the 1970's it doesn't look like there will be live dog racing in South Florida after the last race at Flagler. The Dining Area was full. There was a special meal. The servers and lead outs wore tuxedos and the races were run. Natural State won the 8th and final race, paid $9.00 to win. Handle was about $100,000.

Who sets the guidelines has generally been a form of consensus based on the "rule of law", which has been, been part of our idea of what self government and democracy has always been about. Again most people understand this. I understand the ideas regarding the need for change within institutions. There are aspects of "bureaucracy that need reform. There are certain ethical requirements regarding self government which don't seem to apply any more to those that are elected. Self interest is one aspect of life but when you hold public office or work in government you should make efforts to serve the public in a manner that approach...
Thanks to NPR and "It's Only A Game". I went to Blackhawk Junior High School. The Blackhawks are in the Stanley Cup Finals. My second favorite college football team is called the Seminoles and I don't get completely jacked up about the calling the Cleveland MLB team the Indians, but Chief Wahoo as the team's logo has probably seen better days. Atlanta's Braves have had problems with their screaming Indian and Chief Noc A Homa But I do understand lots of folks asking the owner of the Washington D.C. football team to change the name of the franchise. The request is reasonable. The name is offensive to an ethnic group and hardly defensible to anybody but the team's fan base. Atlanta's mascots became Homer and Rally. The Tomahawk Chop continues and FSU still has Osceola and Renegade at its home football games and it is being done with the approval of the Seminole Tribe. This is hardly the biggest issue in the world today, but it is one that c...
