Results Are In, An Interesting Day

I went to the track a little later than usual on Friday.  Checked in with Randy.  Captivating Cara was 100%.  Then I went to my handicappers desk.  Today I had a short stack.  Not much money to bet, so I committed a gambling mistake that turned into a very fun if not financially successful day.  I bet a total of $24.20 and cashed tickets worth $28.60, exactas in the first two races.  The .10 pick six bet had a carryover of about $21,000.  I thought I would attack that pool with a small bet because it looked like a day with a lot of favorites and maybe a small bet could bring back a pretty good win because even the consolation pool was growing.

I made the bet before the first race ran. The Pick 6 started in the 3rd race and went to the last race of the day, the 8th race.  The exacta in the first paid $12.50 for a dollar. The exact in the second paid $16.10. I could have bet the daily double and been paid $41.40 for a buck.

I now had two winners in a row at good prices. I had beaten favorites and was now the owner of a Pick 6 ticket that cost $7.20 that would probably only be worth serious money if it had all six winners on it.  The ticket included three horses in the 3rd race, one in the 4th, 2 in the 5th, 2 in the 6th, 2 in the 7th, and 3 horses in the 8th race.

I only wanted one more winner on the card.  I was hoping Captivating Cara could win the 3rd and the rest of the day would be an academic exercise and not a replay of  Let It Ride which was filmed at Hialeah Park.

#2, then #1, I four winners in a row, it was now the 5th race, the early Pick 3 was $34.00, and the early Pick 4 was $302.60.  I was still alive and the winner in the 5th(#3) paid $4.40, the 6th paid $5.20, the 7th paid $9.00 and I was alive with three horses in the 8th race, (#3,5,6).  By this time I went to the bar for a beer to steady my nerves not because I would be the only winner, there were several folks with six winners and the carryover would continue that would have been worth approximately $25,000, but because I had a chance to have picked eight winners in eight races.

A very good day with only one blemish.  Got beat by the #9, She's Jessie's Girl, winner paid $19.80 in a race that was over in about seven seconds.  Beat by a nose and .03 seconds, after the race, I pondered the future and bought the program for Saturday.
