Speaking Truth to Power - Take Away His Twitter Account?? and His Password Is 12345

Two weeks from today the United States of America will have a new president.  I've been wrong before but this time even the Senior Senator from Kentucky has finally come down on the side of democratic institutions in governing this country.

Yesterday was an historic day in this country.

Two new Senators were elected in the State of Georgia.

The President spoke before a crowd that gathered as the Congress met to certify the results of the November 3, 2020 election which he lost.

"We will never give up. We will never concede. It doesn’t happen. You don’t concede when there’s theft involved,” Trump told the crowd to whoops and loud cheers, falsely claiming that President-elect Joe Biden’s victory was based on fraudulent vote counts. “We won this election, and we won it by a landslide. This was not a close election.”

“Now it is up to Congress to confront this egregious assault on our democracy,” Trump told his supporters at a “Save America” rally. “After this, we’re going to walk down [to the Capitol] and I’ll be there with you.” (He wasn't.)

That ended badly.  Even a few senators that had planned to voice concern about the results in states the President lost changed their minds and voted to certify the results,  93-6 and 93-7.

The Proud Boy Rally and their supporters that invaded and disrupted Congress, ended with four dead and more than a few comparing yesterday to A Day of Infamy and the 9/11 attack.

So far the President has been restricted from continued access to his twitter account. That job is now assigned to an aide.  I'm tempted to ask why the White House staff, all the way down to the gardeners, cooks, and dishwashers haven't walked out in protest.

Congress now it up to you to confront the president's egregious assault on democracy.

Oh my. This action is about five years too late.

  1. I remember the "good old days" when republicans wished the president would stop "tweeting" so much. Now that Twitter has banned the president from that platform, the new refrain is free speech censorship and media overreach. Timing is everything and what you say can't always be walked back.
