Moneyball In Higher Education
I've attended Illinois State University at Normal, Illinois. Endowment $143,000,000 +/-
University of Miami at Coral Gables, Florida. Endowment $1,600,000,000+/-
West Virginia University at Morgantown, West Virginia. Endowment $650,000,000+/-
The top ten university endowments are: Harvard $32,000,000,000
Yale $20,000,000,000
Texas $20,000,000,000
Stanford $19,000,000,000
Princeton $18,000,000,000
M.I.T. $11,000,000,000
Texas A&M $ 9,000,000,000
Michigan $ 8,000,000,000
Columbia $ 8,000,000,000
Northwestern $ 8,000,000,000
This isn't about baseball but there are differences between the New York Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays. Baseball has a salary cap on spending to try to level the playing field.
There are a lot of kids that would benefit from getting the best education they can get. The cost of going to a university ranges from about $28,000 per year at Michigan to about $66,000 at Columbia.
Obviously a lot of the Ivy League Schools can provide financial aid to lower the cost of going to school for some of their students, but do they do enough to really level the playing field.
This either complicated or it is a very simple, if you have enough money it's all good. If you are poor, get good grades and good test scores but don't have a mentor or two it can get complicated.
