Hialeah Park End of the Meet

The last race at Hialeah Park ran shortly after 4:30 pm on Monday the 29th.  The last day of the meet is also known as getaway day.  Horses are loaded on to vans and moved to the next track where they will run.  Owners and trainers will have one last opportunity to win some money to pay some bills and maybe do some very last minute horse trading picking up a horse that might win next time out and unloading a horse or two that would cost money and space to move.  The proverbial hay burner.

My connection with RW Quarters would be coming to an end (At least until next season).

The stable had a very slow start going about 0-20. The owners and the weather were problematic.  A serious slump. There was a jockey change.  A new stable hand came on board and things started to turn around.  A first time starter running for a tag at $5,000 would become the leading money winner for the stable.  First out the horse ran greenly and finished 4th a length behind the winner.

Next outing Some Beach Anywhere looked like a live one against a relatively weak field.  He had lead for a while but then flattened out.  He needed to run without drifting right or left or getting crushed at the gate. Anything can happen with a horse with a 43 speed rating.

The horse hopped at the start and didn't run a particularly straight race but he kept his head down and won. Speed index 76, and paid $8.80 to win.  The trainer was so excited the picture in the winner's circle was over and done before all the other horses were unsaddled.

Some Beach Anywhere might have earned a rest after the victory but he came back fresh and was kicking and bucking on the walker.  He would run again on closing day.

The horse broke sharply but veered out.  Starting 6th he got it in gear and won by a nose. Speed Index 85 and paid $22.80 to win.

Postscript Some Beach Anywhere was claimed for $5,000 by Jose Vazquez.

And so it goes.
