Shut It Down is Better Than Burn It Down and Art In Public Places
About the last five minutes of the national news on Channel 10 in Miami was preempted by local reports about groups of folks walking around and restricting normal traffic flow on Friday evening. If this is the new form of civil disobedience to replace other more destructive forms form of civil disobedience, I guess it is an improvement. Driving in Miami is bad, this will just give us something else to blame. The roaming folks that made the news did it during the kick off of Art Basel which is one of the first and biggest touristy events in Miami.
There may be some hand wringing by the Downtown Folks and the Wynwood Folks that make some serious cash this weekend, que lastima.
Friday, the Herald reported on the 110 foot tall Pegasus Statue slaying a dragon in the parking lot at Gulfstream Park. The cost of this landmark is approximately $30 million. I hope this works for the average horse player. I can think of a lot of other things to do with that $30 million that would improve Florida Horse Racing:
1) More promptly testing horses for the use of performance enhancing drugs.
2) Spending more money to help get out of training racehorses a place to go in retirement, ditto for greyhounds.
3) If statuary is what you think is needed, maybe a life size bronze of Secretariat or Florida breds or maybe Northern Dancer if you want to commemorate at Canadian Horse.
4) Increasing support for permanently disabled jockey and other folks injured on the backside.
