It's Good When A Plan Comes Together (Finally)

November 18, 2013,I'm now an official horseman at Hialeah Park.  It's kind of neat.  I paid for the Florida owners license a few weeks ago and yesterday I got a picture id.  Right now it is sort of like an all access pass and you can watch some real horsemen taking care of their horses.  It's a 24/7 job, new horses are arriving all the time and when the track is open early in the meet it can be busy with horses eating breakfast, working out on the track, practicing at the starting gate, getting bathed, groomed, and having their stalls cleaned, hay distributed and their feet checked out daily. After the morning rush, things slow down but there are still things to do.  The help and the horses all have their schedules.

Thunderstruck Stable has entered Stolicknaya in the Orange Blossom Stakes on November 29, 2013.  I'm doubtful he will make the race because he has only won a little over $20,000 in his lifetime and will be up against older horses with more experience and earnings and there are twenty horses entered and more than half have earned more than the Beaver and only the top ten will make the field.

The backside at Hialeah Park and the track are picturesque and beautiful.  Friday, I will be taking a camera and some pictures.

Today, I watched new front doors being installed on the stalls.  Randy's horses appreciated the change.  They can follow the action much better and the stablemates could communicate with each other more easily and bad habits born of boredom can be lessened.

Beaver(the horse) has a tremendous overbite and he seems comfortable with his tongue hanging out the side of his mouth on a regular basis.  It looks a little strange and for racing he has a special bit and his tongue is tied.  He is eating well and seems to be enjoying this stint in South Florida.  Randy says he likes papaya smoothies.  Papaya enzymes help digestion and horses really are eating machines and with the overbite I'm not sure he chews like he should.

Whatever race he run I hope he stays calm in the gate and then runs like crazy and the jockey rides like his hair is on fire.
