Small Business Saturday

I was looking for a school book on Saturday, Homeless Bird, by Gloria Whelen for Lisvey who is in 6th grade at Carver Middle School in Miami.

Before buying the book I read the reviews on the intenet.  I don't remember reading anything like this in school and especially in sixth grade.  This was a watered down story of an arranged marriage in India, before it became one of the world's largest economies.

Usually, I walk to Barnes and Noble, they were sold out of the book and offered to order it for me, the clerk said it was available at their Coral Gables Store.  Fall weather even if it doesn't get to Miami until Thanksgiving, made the walk back home pleasant.  Saturday morning at the bookstore these days includes some one reading to kids, or a quick stop at the cafe which is in store and a good place to download something for your reader.  The next closest place that said it had the book was Target.  Parking wasn't as bad as I thought but they were out of the book as well.

Oh well, off to B&N, Coral Gables.

In the car I heard an ad for Small Business Saturday and thought I would try Books and Books in Coral Gables rather than the bookstore chain.  Mitch Kaplan the owner is active in the community and has become a tried and true spot on the authors book tour circuit.  Sort of like those places you see on Cspan on the weekends way up the dial.

Parking was easy and after a little browsing and looking for the young readers section I found the book and got a book mark at the cash register.

Mission accomplished and at a small, locally owned business.
