Gun Violence

Ninety days into 2023 it has been reported that there have been 130 mass shooting and way too many of them in schools.  13 school shootings in schools have resulted in deaths or injuries to students or staff.  I00% of parents want their kids to go to school and not have to experience an active shooter incident and if they are lucky run out of the building with their hands in the air.

Maybe the Congress isn't the place for gun legislation.  Unfortunately, state legislators in states like Florida think that more people with guns is an answer to mass shootings.  Most law enforcement people realize that guns in the hands of more people just makes the problems worse.

Is it easier to police people if an officer starts to assume everybody has a gun, limited training, and maybe having a "very bad day".

One advantage of a federal system is allowing states to experiment with laws regarding access to guns and what kind of guns should be available. And in the next breath, it is also hard to allow some states to make access to guns an almost "free good".

Missing mental illness, missing red flags and enforcement loopholes will make deaths from gun violence possible, but more diligence and a real commitment to admit there is a problem should save lives.
