Back to Normal

 The current Donald J. Trump probably never wanted to really be President of the United States.  I'm not sure if he ever really wanted to win the Republican nomination to be president in 2016.  He probably realizes it is hard work, requires compromise and personal sacrifice to be a leader in this country now if not back then.  

Back in 2015 though it was a great stage to sell his brand or so he might have thought.  Golf vacations at Trump Properties, get away luxury weekends at Trump Hotels, there might be endless opportunities to hook up the Trump name with stuff or maybe even insinuate yourself permanently into the national media and politics and make money as a twenty first century ward healer of sorts who could deliver crowds and excitement. money and votes. 

And now as a lame duck president the fund raising continues to pay off campaign debt, "fight voter fraud", and pay for recount expenses.  Lawyers don't work for free and there will be other legal bills to pay after he leaves office.

The "war time president" seems to have given up on fighting COVID 19, satisfied that the vaccine will distribute itself, the pandemic for himself and his immediate family is over, the stock market is booming, and the Supreme court is packed.  There are certainly some legislative issues related to the economy, health care, and foreign affairs to be monitored.

What President Elect Biden inherits on day one will not only fall on the current president, it will fall on Senate Republicans as well.  They will not be able to undo the results of the election but they should realize the damage that can be done by a disengaged but still flailing  president and step up to protect the nation and move the transition forward.

Internet Dust Ups

 A high school classmate shared on FB, something from a 64 year old commercial pilot who had passed a exam to fly on of the latest jets in their fleet of aircraft.  I was also aware of an FAA rule about retirement at age 65 for commercial pilots.    In the U.S.,  there are no  FAA  age limits for pilots except for commercial airline pilots employed by airlines certificated under 14 CFR Part 121 . These airlines cannot employ pilots after they reach the age of 65. However, these pilots may stay on with a Part 121 carrier in some other role, such as flight engineers. What Is Official These Days?

 I would guess most people would understand what Official means.  Just because a person holds a public office doesn't mean everything he might do is official and everything he might not do is official as well. “The modern conservative is engaged in one of man’s oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness". from J.
