Super Bowl LIV

After an extended absence the Super Bowl will be held in Miami on February 2, 2020.  Stubhub has some tickets available for about $4700.  If we are lucky the weather will be pretty close to perfect in temperature. Showers are possible.  Hotel rates are through the roof and extended stays are the norm.

The Hard Rock has made extensive improvements in seating, the concourses, high definition screens and a canopy to help protect fans from rain.  These improvements allowed Miami to be chosen to host Super Bowl LIV.

I've been invited to Super Bowl parties that only require a covered dish and the beer will be cold.

Miami has hosted the Super Bowl eleven times starting with Super Bowl II in 1968 and Super Bowl LIV or 54 on February 2, 2020.

It should be a good game between the Chiefs and the 49er's. The Chiefs are 3 point favorites.  My gambling will be limited to picking a square for $5.00 at the Moose or the Legion.

I don't care about the commercials, but Marriott Hotels have fixed up a Sky Box for four: Denise Ammon and three friends will be having a sleep over at the Hard Rock Stadium and watch the game and it will be just like they never left their room at the Courtyard.

There will be plenty of other events to entertain fans who might live in Miami but can't afford a ticket.  The NFL Super Bowl Experience seems like a family friendly event on Miami Beach that is a week long event. $$ in price but kids are free?  Super Bowl Live at Bayfront Park is free to attend.  Marlin's Park will be having an "Opening Night" for $25.

And there will be concerts galore at the Triple AAA, Marlin's Park, The Meridian, Wynwood, The Fountainbleau and on Virginia Key.

And if that isn't enough the Miami International Boat Show runs from February 13th through February 17th.

  1. Jennifer Moon, the deputy mayor overseeing the budget office and Super Bowl funds, confirmed Miami-Dade was covering the $1 million expense for the team hotels. She said the agreement with the nonprofit Host Committee allows Miami-Dade to cover the hotel expenses under a provision that charges the committee with “ensuring the teams stay in Miami-Dade County.”

Because the county agreement with Super Bowl organizers requires receipts and reimbursement payments, a large chunk of the committee’s spending flows through Miami-Dade’s accounting arm. A portion of those invoices, obtained through a public-records request, offers a detailed look at some of the costs borne by local governments and what the NFL receives for free.

The expenses offer a measure of the NFL’s leverage over local political leaders as the league holds out the carrot of Super Bowl exposure and travel in exchange for concessions and promises of free police coverage, waived permit fees, comped rental agreements and even cash payments.
