See You In Court, seeking truth.
Tuesday I was called for jury duty in Miami. Getting to the courthouse was a little bit of
challenge as I have not had to get just about anywhere by 8:00am. A good thing about being retired is you kind
of set your own schedule.
It was a long day.
Getting to the train and getting home was twelve hours and for a person
that that has retired it was a long day, not only for myself but probably
everybody else that was in the jury pool room, the courtroom hall, and the
courtroom.
There were a lot people called. We all took an oath that we were citizens, lived
in Miami Dade County and were eligible to be jurors.
I was not chosen as a juror. I don’t think the State Attorney or the
Defense Counsel thought I would be a reliable juror for their case. Eventually six/eight folks needed to be chosen for
a case that would decide guilt or innocence for a person charged with
manslaughter. I've served on several juries, it is not easy, but it is often absolutely necessary.
Leaving the courtroom the fellow sitting next to me was chosen for the jury. He shook his head and said “oh shit”. I left the courtroom feeling like a free man.
