South Florida Sports

Today marks the return of Jose Fernandez from the disabled list to pitch for the Miami Marlins. Jose was the Marlin's Ace fourteen months ago, before he tore his rotator cuff and underwent "Tommy John" surgery and a lot of "rice" which includes rest, immobilize, compression and elevation.  Jose is quoted as saying he played an awful lot of dominoes during his recovery. Along with immobilize, I would include ice and along with elevation folks are encouraged to do therapeutic exercises.

Today's game will have a big crowd. Guaranteed! It's camp day and the Marlin's have lots of kids attending.  The T-shirts will make the place colorful. Regardless of what you might think about school uniforms it will  make it easier to keep track of the campers.

Along with day campers a lot of the 55+ crowd will be able to get free tickets for the afternoon game with the San Francisco Giants.  A crowd of 30,000 plus is expected which could be the biggest crowd since opening day and possibly the biggest of the year. First pitch is at 12:10.  With the roof closed and the AC on high it will a great place to escape the heat.

The Marlin's for all their issues, inexperienced manager, Stanton's broken hand, general lack of hitting, a rogue owner, could use a break. Fernandez could be the South Florida version of Mark Fidrich or Fernando Valenzuela who single handily brought thousands back to the ballpark.

Lazy bastard that summer in Miami has made me, I will be watch from home and possibly order a pizza from Papa John's because the Marlins scored six runs last night and you can get a pie, 50% off.

A three run walk off dinger saved the day and gave the Marlins a relatively undeserved 6-5 victory. Before the ninth inning the Marlins hit into a team record five double plays and committed three errors. Blind hogs can find acorns.
