The Fed is looking at income inequality?

I doubt the Fed can do anything much to change income inequality.  Poor people have crappy low paying jobs and don't have much wealth.  The Fed with cheap money helped inflate the housing bubble we had punctured in about 2007.  QE seems to be re inflating housing wealth and stock market wealth.

The final verdict isn't in.  Growth in the housing market is good for construction jobs, but the lower unemployment rate is very uneven.  North Dakota, Nebraska, South Dakota, Vermont, and Wyoming have unemployment rates below 5%.   Sadly, Illinois, Mississippi, New Jersey, North Carolina, Nevada, and California have unemployment rates that are still 9% or higher.

If people were serious about lowering the unemployment rate much more could be done in rebuilding infrastructure like roads and bridges and good jobs could be created.  This is not rocket science.  There are economic and governmental policies that can help create jobs, but for only what might be considered quasi religious/political reasons too many believe less governmental economic activity will create jobs faster.  The Federal Sequester and layoffs by state and local governments have not helped the economy and it is predicted will actually slow growth in the economy

Better educations and good jobs will help lessen income inequality.  A college degree in a field that is expanding is helpful in finding a job that pays well.  Good ideas and business plans will help stimulate growth, as will reduction in unnecessary regulations.

As in most things, the richer, more connected will do what they can to stifle what they don't like.

The Church I attend let a farmers market sell fruits and vegetables on their land for 6 hours on Saturdays.  Previously, local farmers just had locally grown food delivered and the food was picked up by people who paid organic farmers for a share of the crop.

There are more than a few farmer's markets in the area and the church is zoned for church and child care.  The open space used  for the market benefits neighbors, most of the time and more than a few of the swells walk their dogs or use the tot lot on the grounds.  The zoning inspectors responded to a neighbor or competing market who complained about a possible zoning violation, resulting in the market being closed until details can be worked out.  Meanwhile the market will move to Tropical Park, a County owned park until the end of the winter vegetable season.  I personally will miss picking up a tomato or cucumber and sold to church members on Sunday from left over veggies unsold on Saturday.

Maybe the neighbors don't like people who eat locally grown food driving through their neighborhood.  Traffic calming measures have been installed.  Or possibly a wealthy homeowner in the neighborhood does not want the church to "use" its land in a way he finds bothersome, because the church turned down his offer to buy a couple of acres he would have liked to buy and develop.

It may be that the Fed is also part of the problem in the case of income inequality.
