Let's Go Heat
The Miami Heat have my full attention these days. Ever since Lebron announced that he was coming to South Beach I've had a renewed interest in NBA basketball Miami style. The expectations for this team are over the top and actually even I think nothing less than another world championship will be enough. (In just about any other sport reaching the playoffs would satisfy me and make the season a success.)
Along with high expectations comes a level of scrutany that has made the team the subject seem like a soap opera where each players foibles are reviewed and the result is too much information. I really don't care about the player's parents, their love life, divorces, girl friends. I just want the team to win. I don't gamble on basketball but I do follow the injury reports as a measure of understanding the way the team is playing.
The Miami Heat however could probably use a psychiatrist along with their coaching staff. Like it or not I've been driven to this conclusion by the wild swings in the team's performance. Just about the time you think they have it all together somebody seems to have some issues. James can't finish in close games, who's team is it, and what was D. Wade thinking and why was he swearing at the coach after playing such a bad game.
These issues are followed by a game where Wade and James are almost single handily able to beat any team they play.
The seventh game against the Celtics was typical. The Heat started slowly and trailed by almost double digits at the end of the first half. The 2nd half was a different game. The defense was great helding the Celtics to 35 points and each of the three kings of the Miami Heat scored key baskets to stymie the Celtics.
Eastern Conference Champions will sell some t-shirts and in a uniquely Miami way we beat pots and pans in celebration on Saturday Night, but the Thunder from Oklahoma City will not go quietly and the Heat have to win four more games as a down payment on the championships they promised us.
